To the Karaoke Establishment Permit Holders

Dear Sir/Madam,

Directions under the Prevention and Control of Disease
(Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation
(Cap. 599F) on Karaoke Establishment
(see Gazette Notice published on 26 May 2020)
and other matters requiring attention

This department writes to the karaoke establishment proprietors and operators in the light of the latest situation of the COVID-19.  The Secretary for Food and Health has issued directions on karaoke establishment under the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation (Cap. 599F) through notice published in the Gazette of 26 May 2020.  Karaoke establishment may open for a period of 7 days from 29 May 2020 to 4 June 2020 subject to the requirements and restrictions detailed at Annex.

This department also appeals to karaoke establishment proprietors and operators to attach importance to keeping social distancing by staff and customers, and also put emphasis on personal, food and environmental hygiene.  This department further advises you all to adopt the following measures:

  • utensils and equipment should be sanitised, either mechanically or manually, after cleaning, so as to minimise the risk of cross contamination and the risk of spreading diseases;
  • areas that people may frequently come into contact, such as door knobs, tabletops and seats, should be cleansed and disinfected regularly;
  • a notice should be displayed at the entrance of the premises to advise persons not feeling well (such as having respiratory symptoms, fever or diarrhoea) against entering the premises; and
  • toilet facilities should at all times be maintained in good working order. Adequate supply of liquid soap, paper towels or electric hand-dryer should be provided in toilets.

For continuous upkeep of environmental hygiene, karaoke establishment operators and food handlers must make concerted and persistent efforts to ensure cleanliness on the premises and food safety.  This Department will take stringent enforcement action against offenders in defiance of legislation on environmental hygiene and food safety issues.
