Under normal circumstances, commodities sold in markets are usually fresh food. However, to make markets more viable, commodities sold in markets also cover other food products and non-food products. The commodities that can be sold in public markets are mainly divided into food items and non-food items.

To diversify public market services, light refreshment stalls, bakery stalls, service trade stalls and tradesman stalls are also provided in public markets under the FEHD. Light refreshment stalls are permitted to sell fish balls, fried bean curd and peppers and eggplant stuffed with minced fish, egg-shaped waffles, sandwiches and desserts, while bakery stalls are allowed to sell freshly-baked bread and bakery products. Permitted service trades include post natal care services / domestic services agencies, beauty / manicure / massage parlours, Chinese medicine practitioners / bone-setters' clinics, form-filling services / tax return preparation services, computer-related services, travel agencies, laundry delivery services, telecommunication services, courier services, renovation / interior design, palm-reading / astrology, real estate agencies, financial services and match-making agencies. Permitted trades in tradesman include watch repairer, cobbler, locksmith, stocking mender, curtain maker, dress maker, cloth mender, knife sharpening, seal maker, herbalist and electrical appliances (except air-conditioner, refrigerator and other heavy electrical machines) repairer. The commodities or services permitted to be sold or provided at market stalls will be set out in the tenancy agreement.
