Unlicensed food factory in Kowloon City raided

Officers of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (July 25) raided an unlicensed food factory in a flat at 27 Kai Tak Road, Kowloon City, and seized about 20 kilogrammes of cooked rice, 210 kilogrammes of rice, 30 kilogrammes of canned food and some cooking paraphernalia.

A man was arrested in the operation and is assisting investigations.

Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory, upon conviction, is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

"We will continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food businesses to safeguard food safety and public health," an FEHD spokesman said.

"People should report such illegal activities through the department's hotline at 2868 0000."
