To ensure the smooth implementation of and transition to the new measure of allowing customers to bring dogs into permitted food premises, the FEHD deploys a dedicated team of 90 members daily to tirelessly visit such premises across the territory every day to conduct proactive inspections and provide in-depth explanations on the statutory requirements and licensing conditions.

During today's inspections, the dedicated team specifically reminded customers bringing dogs as well as persons-in-charge and staff of the food premises about the disposal of dog excrement in a hygienic manner:

(1) Disposal of dog excrement

If a dog relieves itself on the food premises, the relevant parties must take the following measures immediately:

【Customers bringing dogs】

Customers bringing dogs should remain civic-minded and co-operative.  Ideally, they should take their dogs to relieve themselves before entering food premises.  If their dogs relieve themselves inside the food premises, they should immediately take the initiative to clean it up and notify restaurant staff for assistance to ensure the area is thoroughly cleaned.

【Food premises are responsible for immediate and thorough cleaning and disinfection】

According to the licensing conditions, if a dog relieves itself on the premises, the soiled area must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected immediately to maintain the hygiene condition of the premises.

Tips for persons-in-charge of the food premises:

If you wish to charge customers bringing dogs a cleaning fee, you should clearly state the details of the charge in the “Notes to Customers” or display them at a prominent location near the entrance to the premises to avoid unnecessary disputes.

(2) Sanitary facilities and guidelines for the food premises

【Providing designated trash bins】

Food premises should provide pedal-operated trash bins for customers to properly dispose of their dogs' excrement.  Please note that such trash bins must under no circumstances be placed inside food rooms (i.e., kitchens or food preparation areas).

【Displaying clear notices】 It is recommended that established “House Rules” or “Notes to Customers” be displayed at a prominent location within the food premises for all customers to follow.
