Environmental Nuisance Investigator (Salary: HK$22,440 per month)

Entry Requirements: Candidates should -

  1. have (i) a Higher Diploma / Associate Degree from a local institution, or equivalent; OR (ii) a Certificate / Higher Certificate / Diploma in Engineering from a local institution, or equivalent;

  2. have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent;

  3. be able to write and communicate in Chinese and English; and

  4. be able to perform outdoor work independently.

[Notes:

  1.  For appointment purpose, "Grade E" in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to "Level 2" in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth;

  2. candidates should give a detailed account of their working experience in the application forms; and

  3. incomplete applications will NOT be further processed.]

Duties:

  1. To investigate and handle water seepage / water dripping from air-conditioner and other complaints in relation to environmental hygiene / pest nuisances, submit investigation reports and recommend follow-up action;

  2. to conduct inspections and surveys concerning environmental hygiene / pest nuisances;

  3. to perform law enforcement duties;

  4. to give witness statement in legal proceedings and to testify in court against plead-not-guilty cases;

  5. to assist in special operations / campaigns to abate environmental hygiene problems / pest nuisances and organising health education campaigns;

  6. to assist Health Inspectorate grade officers as well as other designated staff / personnel to carry out other public health and environmental hygiene duties; and

  7. to perform any other duties as assigned by senior officers.

  1. Required to work 45 hours per week (excluding meal breaks); to work shifts and / or irregular hours and in remote locations; and

  2. may be required to wear working outfits provided by the Department whilst on duty.]

Terms of Appointment: Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for a period of not more than 12 months.  Further employment may be offered at the absolute discretion of the Department, subject to operational need of the Department and satisfactory performance and conduct of the staff.

Gratuity (only applicable to appointee with contract of 12 months): A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct.  Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 10% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.

Fringe Benefits: Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual leave, maternity leave or paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.  Non-Sunday General Holidays (or alterative holidays) will also be granted.
