Salary:
Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 3 (HK$14,620 per month) to Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 13 (HK$17,870 per month)
Entry Requirements:
Candidates should –
- have 5 years' manual work experience in the past 7 years (from 27 November 2014 to 26 November 2021) in one or more of the following fields of work –
- cleansing and labouring;
- removal/disposal of dead bodies; cemeteries/crematoria related duties such as handling cremated human remains, exhumation in cemeteries or related work;
- pest control including mosquitoes control and use of pesticides; and
- be able to speak fluent Cantonese and simple English; read and write simple Chinese and English.
- The post is open to male and female.
- For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.)
Main Duties of Ganger:
- supervising the Dead Removal Team in the removal of dead bodies/animal carcasses; carrying out dead removal duties and clean-up operation with team members; supervising team members in degreasing/removal of glass/debris after traffic accident and emergency case in mid-night shift;
- leading the Malaria Prevention Gang to perform duties relating to malaria prevention which includes removal of blockage, refuse, wild vegetation from streams/rocky pools/water channels etc; spraying larvicidal oil or applying other larvicides onto streams/water surface where mosquitoes can breed;
- heading a Street Washing Gang to carry out washing in streets, rear lanes and other areas as directed by supervisors; and
- heading a Desludging Gang in desludging operations; operating the suction valve of desludging vehicles; removing sludge from septic tanks/aqua privies.
Notes:
- A Ganger works 45 hours per week (normally 6 days excluding lunch breaks). He/She is required to wear uniform, work outdoor and perform duties of an obnoxious nature or under harsh conditions, e.g. removal of dead bodies, performing emergency/typhoon/other natural disasters duties. He/She may be required to work shifts, irregular hours, overnight, in adverse weather condition and in remote areas, e.g. outlying islands, border, airport etc.
- A Ganger is subject to posting within the Ganger grade and required to carry out different duties in other Government bureaux/departments when the need arises.
Terms of appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
