Salary: Master Pay Scale Point 8 ($21,340 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 14 ($30,235 per month)

Entry Requirements:

Candidates should –

(a)(i) have Level 2 or equivalent Note 1 or above in three subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) Note 2, or equivalent; or Level 2 Note 3 / Grade E or above in three subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) Note 2, or equivalent; and 3 years' post-qualification working experience; OR (ii) have Level 2 or equivalent Note 1 or above in five subjects in HKDSEE Note 2, or equivalent; or Level 2 Note 3 / Grade E or above in five subjects in HKCEE Note 2, or equivalent; and 2 years' post-qualification working experience;

(b) have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 Note 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent; AND

(c) be able to pass a relevant physical test for assessing candidates' physique in carrying out law enforcement duties.

Note 1: For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Attained with Distinction’ in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and ‘Grade C’ in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 3’ in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.  ‘Attained’ in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and ‘Grade E’ in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. 

Note 2: The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language. 

Note 3: For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.

Duties:

  1. To perform hawker control duties including arrests, seizures and disposals of seized articles and hawker paraphernalia, hawker clearance, regularisation, re-ordering and resiting work, hawker surveys, giving evidence in court, preparing documents and records, supervising Workmen I in hawker operations, operating radio equipment and manning the District / Hawker Control Task Force Control Centre, Seized Goods Store and Hawker Handling Centre, etc.;
  2. to keep markets, hawker bazaars and areas maintained by Hawker Control Teams clear of illegal hawking activities and obstruction;
  3. to undertake anti-litter duties including the issue of fixed penalty notice / Form 1A; (d) to undertake duties relating to illegal shop extension; and
  4. to conduct training.

[Note: Assistant Hawker Control Officers are required to observe a special job-related disciplinary code, wear uniform, work 45 hours net per week (excluding meal breaks), work shifts and perform duties outside normal working hours, work in remote areas and receive training appropriate to their duties and are subject to posting and transfer at the discretion of the Department.]

Terms of appointment:

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years.  Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Basic Law Knowlege Assessment:

For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge.  The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate's overall assessment.
