Intensified Precautionary Measures against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) to
Person-in-charge of the Food Premises

While Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) is not transmissible through food consumption, droplet spread is however possible. Since food premises are places where people conglomerate, their precautionary disease prevention measures should be extra-strengthened, to curb the spread of the disease. We would therefore urge all persons-in-charge of food premises to take the following measures immediately:

  • Arrange for staff to wear mouth masks; and

  • Instruct staff to cover the food properly during delivery.

The implementation of the above measures does not imply that food premises are more susceptible to the occurrence of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) infection. Rather, it is a responsible act of food premises which have put public health as their foremost concern. The implementation of these measures will not only better safeguard the health of staff and customers, but would also help restore public confidence in patronizing food premises. We trust you will respond positively to our appeal.
